Know Who You Are...
It’s 2019 now and I’m reading through the Bible again. As usual, you read the same thing over and over, and you get some new insight that wasn’t noticed before. So to start off the new year, I want to remind you WHO YOU ARE from what the scripture says in Genesis.
——We are being tricked into believing that we are less than what we truly are.——
Reading: Genesis 1:26-28
Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
So God created man in his own image,
in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them.
And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
Genesis 3:1-6
Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made.
He said to the woman, “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?” And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden, but God said, ‘You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.’” But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate.
KNOW YOUR IDENTITY and Don’t let anyone steal that from YOU
The story of Adam and Eve is a story that I love so much because of the clear picture of a pure life with God. God gave them everything they needed. All the food they could ever need, beautiful companionship, a clear conscience, and best of all—direct contact with the creator of the Universe.
Our identity comes from God. In fact, God made us in His own image. We have been created in the image of God; “male and female He created them and God blessed them.” Not only did God create us in His image, we have also received His blessing! What more could we ask for…..? But that’s where the problem was….
The serpent made Adam and Eve feel like they didn’t have it all. Why? Because God told them not to eat of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. The serpent made Eve feel like she wasn’t complete by saying, in verse 5, “God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” The serpent twisted the situation and made her focus on something that she really didn’t need at all. The stole her identity right there.
We have been made in the image of God. Here’s a question. Does God lack anything? God does not lack anything, and we have been made in His perfect image! Yet the serpent made Eve feel like she lacked some things and she wasn’t already “like God.”
How many of us are being tricked in the same way? We are being tricked into believing that we are less than what we truly are. We are God’s image. So in reality we lack nothing because God has everything. If we feel like we lack something, like wisdom for example, all we need to do is ask God for it instead of taking matters into our own hands…
God gave us authority over everything. Do you know that this authority includes the serpent? The thing that tricked us into believing we are less than what we are is the thing that is actually less than what we are! This serpent has no authority. We have authority over the serpent, yet we gave up our authority when we decided to listen and follow his lies.
DON’T BE DECEIVED ANYMORE!
Wake up and stand on the authority you have been given since the beginning.
Well, as you know, that part of the story didn’t end so well. They listened to the serpent, disobeyed God, and was kicked out before they decided to eat from the Tree of Life, which would give them eternal life. But it’s NOT OVER yet. We have been redeemed by Jesus Christ. He reestablished what we have messed up in the beginning. We gave up our identity, but He has given us His identity. We reign with Christ. He has given us the authority through Himself. That was the point from the beginning. God and man together.
As we begin this year. Let us walk with God. Let’s call His name. Let’s give our lives to Jesus and recommit to Him. There is no loss in Him. He came down and experienced death on our behalf so we don’t have to fear it anymore, why? He has authority over death!! Everything in heaven and on earth is under His authority. God calls us to walk in that authority through Jesus Christ.
Let us be Kings and Queens this year
Remember who you are
God bless you
